Participation in the ACTIS research project

Helping to improve the efficiency of the transport sector and enhancing its sustainability, ILIADIS TRANSPORTS SA participated in the ACTIS research project (Advanced Cargo Transport Information Services), in which project coordinator and scientific partner was Hellenic Institute of Transport (H.I.T.) of the Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH). The project was completed in October 2015.

The extensive experience and expertise in the freight sector of ILIADIS TRANSPORTS SA and particularly of the CEO of the company Mr. George Iliadis, who was the initiator of the project, was essential for the implementation of ACTIS.

The project ACTIS introduces, for the first time in the Greek market, an innovative and technologically advanced electronic transport services brokerage platform that provides modern functionalities and services, transferring theoretical research knowledge into immediate practical implementation, while providing many other additional services such as assessment of the costs and travel time, information on traffic conditions in urban and interurban roads and weather forecast.
The ACTIS aims to provide possibilities for combining cargos and the available vehicles to reduce the percentage of empty transport which is currently conservative estimated at around 30%.
The benefits of using the platform, regarding the national economy, society and environment are briefly mentioned:

  • increase of the productivity of the industry and therefore competitiveness through the reduced and flexible transport costs.
  • reduction of empty kilometers traveled by users carriers by increasing road safety and
  • overall reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
